| Outlaws Roll To Cup Game |
The Oklahoma Outlaws are one game away from finalizing the first undefeated season in the history of the CFL. It's ironic that a season such as this would come in the inaugural season of the league itself. The Outlaws are just one game away from making history, and possibly cementing the CFL's place in football history as well.Posted By: Commish |
| Spencer Runs Wild In Round One |
HB Tim Spencer has his way with the Express in the first round of the 1984 playoffs. Spencer carried the ball 28 times for 327 yards. Spencer scored 4 touchdowns on the day and single handedly defeated Los Angeles and mega star QB Steve Young. When all was said and done the Wranglers went home with a 44-9 victory and cruised in to the conference championship where they will face the undefeated Outlaws who also won easily over the Invaders by a score of 35-16. | Oklahoma Remains Unbeaten |
Doug Williams has the Oklahoma Outlaws on a crash course with the CFL Cup. The Outlaws remain unbeaten going in to week 9 of the 1984 CFL Season. Williams is the number 7 rated passer in the league, which doesn't sound outstanding, but he has been the field general that the Outlaws needed to lead them to a championship. On the ground, Dino Snider has carried the team. He has rushed for a total of 949 yards and is averaging almost 5 yards per carry. The Outlaws sport one of the most balanced offenses, and a brutal defense. At this point in the season, it doesn't look like anyone is going to challenge them for the championship. Posted By: Commish |
| Houston To Make Changes |
| Word out of Gamblers headqaurters is that big time changes will be made this coming offseason. The Houston GM had this to say; "We have been absolutely terrible so far this season. With the high powered offense that we put on the field every week there is no excuse for our poor showing. We gave up seventy points in the first game of the year, and that is just unacceptable. Our defense has really let us down. You can expect big time changes. We are going to draft defense, sign defense, and I wouldn't be suprised if quite a few guys that are starting this year, find themselves without a job come next season." His comments have caused some turmoil in the Houston locker room as of late. There has been a lot of finger pointing and frustration. With this type of evnironment on and off the field, the rest of the season could be torture for Gamblers fans. Posted By: |
| Walker Makes His Run |
The most heralded player in the CFL is in the process of making his run. New Jersey's golden boy, Herschel Walker, is making a run at the CFL rushing title. In the process he has helped the Generals compile a record of 5 wins and only 1 loss.Walker has rushed for 864 yards this season, but that isn't the only way he is amassing his yardage. The Generals have used him as a passing threat way more than anyone had expected them to this season. Herschel has caught 18 passes and has scored another three touchdowns through the air. NJ, wanting Walker on the field as much as possible, has placed him back to return punts as well. This move was criticized by many when the year started, but it has been paying big dividends. Walker is averaging over 18 yards a punt return and has even put two of them in the end zone this year. Posted By: Commish |
| Clem Is The Hero |
Chicago Blitz kicker Doug Clem was the hero of week 5. He was called up to kick just twice in the game against the favored LA Express and star QB Steve Young. Clem made the most of his chances though. He kicked 34 yard FG with no time on the clock at the end of regulation to send the game in to overtime. At just a little over 3 minutes in to the overtime quarter, Clem was called to the plate once again. Yet again he failed to let his team down as he nailed a 39 yard field goal to win the game and help the Blitz capture their first win of the 1984 season.Posted By: Commish |
| Generals Sqaush Federals Comeback |
The Washington Federals went in to the fourth quarter down 12 points to the Generals. The game seemed to be all but over. At that point fans started to pour out of the stadium figuring that the game was over. It was far from over. The Federals offense picked things up and scored 13 points in the fourth quarter alone. Bigalow returned a punt 49 yards for a score and Chane Haffner followed that up with a 14 yard touchdown pass Donald Hansen. The two point conversion failed, but the Federals had taken the lead. The joy was short lived however. With 9 seconds left in the game, after an impressive drive by Brian Sipe, Herschel Walker and the rest of the Generals offense, Ray Miller kicked a 32 yard field goal to win the game. | Williams Goes 73 Yards In OT |
| After just 11 seconds, however, the Panthers found themselves on the winner's side of the track. HB John Williams took the ball from QB Bobby Hebert and blazed 73 yards down the field to score the games last and only touchdown. Williams had been held in check for most of the game. Up until that point Williams had carried the ball 17 times for 60 yards. The game was a severe let down for the Gamblers and a supreme victory for the Panthers. Houston's defense has had it's problems in the first two weeks and week 3 looked to be a positive, until the roof fell off and Williams trashed any chances of a Gamblers win. Posted By: Commish |
